Twanna @ FUNKY BROWN CHICK: It’s Gettin’ Hot In Herre

  • Pegs · 3 years ago
Hotter, baby. Remeber, weather moves west to east, so whatever NYC has, Chicago had yesterday or the day before. Help is on the way. We had some severe storms last night & this morning is cool enough that my run may not leave me one big sweat ball. Thank the Lord above for air conditioning.
Just a thought, does NYC have cooling centers? Chicago learned its lesson the hard way (about 700 peple died) in 1995 with the extreme, prolonged heat. Now whenever the temps get dangerously hot, the city opens some 24-hour air conditioned buildings. You could bring Denzel, too!
  • Pegs · 3 years ago
    That's supposed to be "remember."
  • stolie · 3 years ago
That's soooo true. It's like you guys are from the future. What's the weather going to be like in New York in 2 days? Call Chicago to find out! :)

About your second comment ... Sweetie, turn off your teacher cap. :) I already assumed that you meant "remember" instead of "remeber" and "people" instead of "peple". No worries. This isn't a spelling contest; it's just a blog. :)
  • stolie · 3 years ago
One more thing ... about the cooling centers ... Thank the sweet baby Jesus for Bro Bro!! I love that woman. Her apartment is my "cooling center". :)
  • AWE · 3 years ago
It is running around 95 here, but we take you in humidity and mosquitoes.
  • Mint Chutney · 3 years ago
Reporting from Chicago it feels MUCH better today.

If Denzel is coming to Chicago I'd like to turn him on as well. ; )
  • Jax · 3 years ago
yes. its hot here in connecticut. its 86 degrees were I live. and thats only on there water!
  • stolie · 3 years ago
AWE: Yep, we've got the humidity too. This is quite unusual for these parts. But, you're right, we don't have the mosquitoes like you do. Bed bugs? Yes. Mosquitoes? No.

Mint Chutney: Oooooh, you have such a diry mind! I like that about you. :)

jax: Wow!!! 86 on the water?? That's hot.
  • Jax · 3 years ago
    oh yeah, catchy ryme
  • MamaChristy · 3 years ago
Super stinking hot. Like 80-90% humidity and 101 yesterday. Supposed to be the same today and then we "cool down" to 98 for a couple of days. While we really love to play outside, but it is too hot so we find indoor activites.

It's funny because you northerners tend to spend the entire summer outside while us Texans finally come inside during the summer.
  • Howard · 3 years ago
You are getting what Denver has been experience for amost two weeks. We've broken, I think, three high records in the past week and a half.

Yes, it's freakin' hot here, too. No, no, there is no such thing as Global Warming even if it's man-made or a natrual trend of the planet (I personally think it's a combination of both)

Frankly, Summer is my least favorite season. Not that I hate it, but, man, it tries to make me hate.
  • stolie · 3 years ago
Jax: Yeah, I love it! ... But, I can't take credit for it. It's the opening line from one of my favorite oldies called "Summer in the City" by "The Lovin' Spoonfuls". [I just replaced "summer" with "blogging".] It's a GREAT song; listen to a clip.

MamaChristy: I *LOVE* outdoor activities in the summer. :)

Howard: The latest gift of of global warming has been brought to you by the folks over at Ford Motor Company. ;) [Queue the song, "Hot in Herre."]

distar: I *avoid* the MTA at all costs. It's actually hotter down there than it is above ground.
  • Mel Chickk · 3 years ago
You poor thing! I know I bitch about the heat but at least I have air. Then I run it and bitch about the PG&E bill.

I didn't go outside one time yesterday. Not even to feed the cats. I looked through the window, they had food and water, done!

It's only supposed to be 105 today. Yeah!
  • goldennib · 3 years ago
OMG, I'd never make it without air. I hate the heat. It makes me ill. You poor thing. I'm glad you can go to someone else's place to cool off.
  • kypris · 3 years ago
I feel lucky here in Vancouver. Although it's supposed to get up to 36 C sometime in the near future, it's generally not very humid and if you go to the right places, you can get a nice breeze and a lot of shade! It's often too warm still, but I'm guessing it's more pleasant than all of the places mentioned in the other comments...

  • faeriedust48 · 3 years ago
Wow, I can't believe NYC could be so hot in the summer! And I thought I had it bad in HI...it's been mid-high 80s with some tradewinds. But, it's gonna get really bad by week's end when the trades die down and it's gonna be HUMID. Yuuuuuuck!!!
  • Firefly · 3 years ago
Blistering. In the Thirties, °C wise... Funny thing is, the nights are cool, so nobody's really complaining. At least you get to cool off.

Another thing: Everytime I hear that Summer in the City song, I think of NYC. Guess it ain't too fun when the pavement's 'hotter than a matchhead' though...

I hope your Denzel is in a better mood by now :)

Barely breaking 70 here in San Francisco.
  • Dear Lovey Heart · 3 years ago
thank heavens for utah's blessed dry heat, so although it is 105 there is no humidity
  • Raymond · 3 years ago
Yes, the electric company is allowing people to forward their childsupport payments.

    No really.

    But it's hot.
  • E · 3 years ago
I'm getting cabin fever! 107 (in the shade)Fahrenheit today, just 3 degrees short of the 110 high in 1980...I had to change clothes 3 times yesterday because they were soaked - thank goodness I"m sweating! Don't want any of that heat exhaustion.
  • stolie · 3 years ago
Mel Chickk: Yeah, supposedly it was 102 today. I really can’t take this heat ...

goldennib: I don’t know what I’d do without Bro’s place. My next apartment *must* have air conditioning.

kypris: Okay, that sounds like the OPPOSITE of NYC right now. No shade. No breeze. 100% humidity. Etc. Etc ...

Jax: I’m *really* sorry to hear that. :(

faeriedust48: This is quite unusual. It’s not supposed to get this hot here.

Firefly: No, the nights haven’t been really cool here at all. There’s no respite from the heat. You can’t hide from it. It’s everywhere at all hours in all places ... And, yeah, that song reminds me of LA and New York ... And, yeah, Denzel is doing fine. I’ve and a “Polar Pack” under him right now.

Carlos: I’m SEETHING with envy!!! :)

    Dear Lovey Heart: 105 + humidity = NYC right now = :(

    Raymond : It’s toooooo hot. :(

E: I feel so gross and disgusting around people now. I’m like, “ewwwww, don’t touch me, I’m sweaty.” It’s not a pretty sight.
  • Kelly · 3 years ago
Oh it was...but I passed it along to you...don't want to be greedy ya know? ;-) hehe

I MOVED during that heat...and my new place air conditioning didn't work AT ALL!! UGH
  • Mitch · 3 years ago
    The Late Responder.

Kypris is right, it's going to be a scorcher here in Vancouver come the weekend. BUT, we can head to the water (English Bay) go swimmingm and usually find a nice grassy and shady spot to keep somewhat cool.

For Vancouver, it'll be hot... for the rest of North America, it would qualify as being mildly warm.

Though I can sympathize because when I was in Brisbane, it was 45 degrees (about 115 Farenheight) with 100% humidity. I nearly melted.

    Good luck!
  • missbhavens · 3 years ago
Oh, it's bad, ain't it? And I had to to five loads of laundry last night? Imagine folding every towel, sheet and t-shirt you own in a laundromat withy the doors open and no AC? I twas sheer sweaty hell. And then when I was done I went to the Dunkin' Donuts and they served me a lemon coolata that melted before it was in my hand. I nearly killed the man behind the counter.

My computer is also doubling as a toaster oven. You sound like you need one of these.

Always prop up your laptop so your baby doesn't fry.

Speaking of "Hot In Herre", I just performed it Monday night.

    As Carol Channing.
  • Tonito Bandito · 3 years ago
Stolie, you know that global warming is a bitch!

105 today here in Rome, GA and no cooling down yet in sight....

Wheeeeeewwwwwww! That is me blowing on you to try to cool you off.....at least my apartment has a chillin a/c.....
  • lala · 3 years ago
Almost melted? God love ya baby, but I'm jealous. It rained so bad here the other day, I almost got blown into the harbour and ended up walking around the office with suit pants completely drenched from the knee down. I know there's no snow here for winter - but I was chilled to the bone.

Mmmm, heatwave is sounding good to me as I sit and write in my flannel and fleece! (This country has not heard of insulation and/or central heating...)
  • stolie · 3 years ago
Kelly: You MOVED during that the heatwave?!?!?! WOW. I could barely manage moving my body along the sidewalk let alone moving all of my personal belongings from one place to another. I'm impressed.

Mitch: Seeeee, it's true. You *can* melt in this weather.

missbhavens: Thanks for the advice. And, that's a cool little gadget!!! :) So far, my 2-book-method is working out okay. (And, just in case you were wondering ... it's Arthur S. Goldberger's "Introductory Econometrics" on the right side and Po Bronson's "What Should I Do With My Life?" on the left.) :)

Howard: I wish I could have seen that one! :)

Tonito Bandito: Thanks for the cool breath. I think it worked. Yesterday and today are both much cooler than Monday was.
  • stolie · 3 years ago
LALA: You sneaked one in on me there ... :)

Trust me, you don't want the kind of heat that we've had in New York. It was AWFUL!!!
